Richard has worked for the church since 1966, always in Yorkshire. He also had a dozen years working for Christian Aid, which is an overseas aid charity. Married to Sylvia, they have three sons and now two grandchildren. Sylvia has always done voluntary work in all the places they have lived and is a key part of the team. What does a Vicar do? Lead and prepare Sunday worship, take weddings, funerals and baptisms, visit people and do his best to encourage people to think seriously about faith. And there’s lots of admin! Richard is supposed to be semi-retired but it often doesn’t feel like that. And for time off? Walking in Derbyshire is a shared activity, and then there is his passion for trams; he has published a handful of books on subjects such as trams in Sheffield and trolleybuses in Doncaster.

Christian Aid Week - 9^th to 16^th May 2010

The Knock on the Door Week!

Yes, it’s that time of year again!

During this month please be prepared for either a knock on your door or a request to give to Christian Aid either at a coffee morning, at Church, at school or in the shops

There will also be coverage on TV. All being well we hope to knock on most doors in the Ecclesiastic Parish of Holy Trinity Church, Wentworth; the boundaries of which are of course different from the Civil Parish boundaries.

This collection is taken on behalf of our Church and is one of our major fund raising events; as Christians and as “our brothers’ keepers” we do our best during this week to raise a significant amount of money to really help people who are so desperately poor that they are short of food, medicines, education, clean water etc.

We are collecting as part of a wider group in our area in that we are joining our brother and sister churches in the Wath Conference of Churches who are also collecting for Christian Aid. Together we can make a difference.

Please, please, if you pay tax, DO GIFT AID your donation – it will increase your donation by nearly 1/3 at no cost to yourself. It’s not often we get something for nothing from our government, so do take advantage of their generosity!

Let’s hope we can raise a record amount this year.

Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity. Please also welcome those who are collecting. They are most generously giving their time and a lot of hard work to make this collection possible. I, too, thank them in advance.

HARLEY MISSION CHURCH NOTES

Thank you to everyone who supported the Christian Aid Coffee and Cakes morning. A total of £112 was raised.

Sheila and Ruth would like to thank everyone who sponsored them for the Sponsored Knitting session, organized by the Wath Conference of Churches. Between them they raised £120. The money goes to Christian Aid, whilst the knitting goes to the charity CART for distribution in Africa
